When is success a failure?

When is a failure a success? Although it may sound odd, causing hearing instruments to break down is the objective of the rigorous Accelerated Screen Test (AST) that ReSound products are subjected to as part of the development process. The AST is a 5-week regime of torture for hearing instruments consisting of tests for vibration, impact, exposure to salt mist and humidity, temperature cycling and cyclic damp heat. This testing enables ReSound engineers to identify weaknesses and take corrective action before a hearing instrument reaches the market ,resulting in better quality products, reduced service costs and happier audiologists and consumers.

iSolateTM technology includes component packaging and targeted coating and sealing to minimize the stressful effects of wear and tear on ReSound hearing instruments. Now reliability has been further improved by iSolate TM nanotech, a process that universally treats every hearing instrument surface with a polymer coating 1000 times thinner than a human hair. This nanoscopic protection causes any moisture to bead up and roll off the hearing instrument, thereby preventing the conditions for corrosive damage from occurring.  AST results showed no damage to devices treated with iSolate TM nanotech, while more than half of untreated devices were negatively affected. Considering that MarkeTrak surveys have identified hearing instrument reliability as a reason for dissatisfaction as well as a reason for returns, iSolate TM nanotech represents a significant contribution to improved satisfaction.
